We all struggle at various points in our lives. How do you ask for what you need at this moment to deal with the hardship?
A Prayer in the Struggle
I have prayed this brief two sentence prayer many times this past week amid unpacking a household while carrying on with the rest of the fullness of life. The prayer is for times when you are too exhausted, too stressed, or too weary to pray at the end of the day.
It is a prayer when you need to check in with God to request a momentary break, asking to turn off the racing mind, the worry, the never-ending to-do list, whatever the dilemma, and appeal for nourishing rest. It is as if you are saying to God, “I get it. My life is in turmoil (insert difficulty here). I recognize that. I am also tired and need sound rest. Exhaustion is overwhelming me, and I don’t need to struggle tonight. Here, hang on to the complication, and I will pick it up in the morning. Thank you. Amen.”
Oh God, there are many struggles in our lives right now.
Let us not struggle this night. Amen.

Ask for What You Need
Nourishing rest can do wonders for our energy to face our struggles head-on with stronger resolve and courage. Praying from that core place of genuine human emotion and authenticity can do the same for bolstering our spirit.
Keep it real, especially in your praying. Ask for what you need.
