What helps you focus on your plans and goals for 2020? Even if you haven’t thought much about the new decade, it is not too late to plan and act. Know you can start anytime.
Goals for 2020
“What are your goals for 2020?” This question was one that a colleague recently asked me. During our conversation, we both shared our plans and hopes for the new year.
Our conversation got me thinking about Malaka Gharib’s Twitter challenge on New Year’s Eve and to make a zine in about 20 minutes. A zine is a small work of original art.
Create a Zine
During my lunch break this past week, I spent almost 20 minutes making the following zine. I did not reflect on the past decade but I looked forward to how I want to take action in the coming year.
Beforehand, while I was eating lunch, I was thinking about my focus for 2020. What words will be the anchor points that keep me grounded in my goals and vision?
Here are the results of my rumination. These words will help me act and be throughout the year. They will help keep me rooted in my vision.
Seven Anchor Points
- Determined – there is a stubbornness within me that is rooted in action.
- Compassionate – I intend to deepen my ways of listening, observing, noticing, and seeking understanding.
- Inspiring – Looking forward to sharing my questions, insights, and mysteries that still keep me searching for more.
- Relentless – Along with determination, I am one not to easily give up – my stubbornness, from both sides of my family, contribute to my strength and also challenge me to balance my focus with my limits.
- Intentional – I am continually learning how to live fully in the present moment.
- Resilient – One of the toys from my childhood was Weebles with a great catchphrase, “Weebles wobble but they don’t fall down.” They remind me of my approach to living, especially during the difficult and challenging times – bend but don’t break.
- Grateful – this virtue is at the ground of my being, still seeking and living from a deep place of thanksgiving.
Your Turn – Your Challenge
What are your plans for the coming year? What are your anchor points to help keep you grounded in your vision throughout 2020?
I challenge you to spend some time, about 20-30 minutes, creating a simple zine and post your results here.
Here is a great tutorial on how to make a zine from one piece of printer paper – a quick and easy process.
I welcome your creativity and comments.
