I am in the midst of reading, A Whole New Mind: Why Right-Brainers Will Rule the Future by Daniel H. Pink, and I really resonated with the following section on the paradox of prosperity and the pursuit of purpose and meaning. Nature, the Forest and Three Types of People in the World
During my graduate studies several years ago, I spent a summer studying philosophy at a Benedictine monastery. In the foyer of one of their administration buildings, the monks had a mini-library of assorted magazines on various topics and categories of life. One afternoon I took a break from my studies, went down to the lobby to flip through and read some of the periodicals. One was an Ecology magazine. There was a quote from an article in that magazine that has stayed with me all these years. I do not remember the title nor the author of the article but the quote goes something like this: [Read more…] about Nature, the Forest and Three Types of People in the World
Do Not Doubt The Power of Your Good
Do Not Doubt The Power of Your Good
The power of your good. Sometimes we go through life unaware of how much we make a difference in people’s lives. Or other times, we may question ourselves if we are making a dent at all in making the world a better place. Yet, it is in the small things that can truly make an impact. Many times, tiny acts often go unnoticed. The power of goodness is strong no matter the size of the action.
Listening. Assistance. Opportunity. Challenge.
Some experiences I have recently encountered:
- Taking time to listen and to experience a soulful conversation with a friend – leaving the encounter feeling energized and inspired
- Stopping to help someone with directions to find their way back home
- Giving an employee a chance to learn and grow, and the employee responds by thriving with excellence
- Challenging authority in a constructive manner resulting in a positive change for the empowerment of children
Soulfulness. Kindness. Transformation. Persistence.
What are some examples of the power of your goodness?
Let these experiences remind you to trust the work of your good is making difference whether you see it or not. Do not doubt. Period.
A note about the photo – This butterfly hung out one afternoon this summer at our camp site. The butterfly is a significant reminder of my brother’s encouraging presence. My brother, Tom, died of cancer four years ago. I seem to encounter butterflies when I most need the encouragement, whether I am mindful or not of this inner need.
Ponder the Journey of Self-Discovery – Let It Take You Many Places
How are you learning and growing along your journey of self-discovery?
Where are you headed?
What is the next milestone?
Where do you still want to go?
Who are your companions along the way?
Self-Discovery. Growth is a process, always moving forward. Take your time. Ponder the expedition. Savor each experience. Notice the opportunities for learning. Rest when needed. Do not be afraid to fail. Trust your instincts. Share your strengths. Tell your story. Treasure the company of friends you encounter along the way. You are where you need to be at this moment.
Keep going.
Seek the Questions for Curiosity Beckons
Curiosity beckons.
Seek the questions so you may dwell in the depths of curiosity. Allow the questions to take you on a journey, on a quest for meaning, toward a breadth of insight, and a vast expansion of wisdom. Let the action of wonder take you to a deeper place of learning. Give yourself permission to ask questions that carry you through the wilderness of inquiry. Get lost in the exploration, and then wait for understanding to find you.
May the questions provoke your thirst for more. Keep seeking, and continue learning and growing through the questions, for curiosity beckons.
