A Capacity for the Possible
I have been thinking a lot these days about the idea of possibility, standing on the edge of that which is achievable in life. There is a cusp of opportunity out there for something more, something good, something doable. Something is energizing about expanding your capacity to think differently toward the ever-reaching possible – to begin anew, to start something fresh, to do something different, to grow into the person you dream of becoming.
To embrace these ideas, you need the capacity to think critically and possess some amount of intensity about what you want to do in life. At a quick glance, this may seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. Allow yourself to work in small segments and with diligent consistency.
Three Elements
The steady work toward opportunity has three elements. First, you need to decide to listen to the inner desire and affirming messages in your mind that draw you towards the edge of possibility. Simultaneously, ignore or lower the volume of any negative messages.
Second, you need to commit to taking action, to do something small each day to help you move in the direction toward that which you desire. For example, spend 5 or 10 minutes a day reflecting on what you want in life and how you plan to get there. The reflection doesn’t have to be a long, drawn-out process or time frame. Spend a few minutes sitting in the quiet just before you go to work to think deeply about what you want. Or, just before you leave your office at the end of the day, set a timer for 10 minutes, then sit in your chair with your eyes closed and reflect on what you did during the day. How did your accomplishments help you get closer to your desire for something more?
Third, you need to have a willingness to be there for a while at the edge of the unknown as you wait to step into an opportunity or move in the direction of where you want to go. The timing may not be immediate. Sometimes, opportunities take time to unfold. A willingness to be ready, to be ready in heart, mind, and spirit will carry you through the unknown. Patience in the process is key.
Take Action
Taking action toward personal growth requires an expansive mindset, a willingness to stand at the edge of your change that is needed, that you determined you need to make life better for you, for something more, for something possible. This desire takes courage, courage to take the next step toward that which you need to do for your personal growth. Three things are needed to get started: an open mind, an expansive mindset toward action in small steps, and a willingness to stand at the edge ready to act. Be patient in the process. Opportunity will be there for you in due time.
You only have this moment in life to think or to act, only this moment to reflect, to do, or to become.
