Do you know that there is no one on earth exactly like you? Even if you are an identical twin, there is still something special and unique about who you are. You stand out, and nothing or no one else compares to you. Because you are one-of-a-kind, there is no time to be mediocre.
The Speed of Time
Do you ever notice how life seems to be going by at warp speed? Why does 24 hours, especially during the summer months, seem to fly by so fast? Because life is short, there is no time to be mediocre.
Time in the Present Moment
When I was a teenager, I thought life went by really fast. My Mom would often say to me, “wait until you are older, it will go by even faster than when you are young.” She was right. As I have gotten older, I realize that life goes by way too quickly. Life feels very rapid, and life is short in the blink of the universe.
What we have is the present moment, 24 hours or 1440 minutes a day . That’s it, an opportunity to live this day better than yesterday. Who wakes up and says, “I think I will be average today.” To be mediocre means to be average, indifferent, or ho-hum. It is defined as barely adequate, ordinary, or of moderate quality.
Working Toward Extraordinary Greatness
The opposite of being mediocre is striving for excellence, working toward extraordinary greatness. Do not let mediocrity limit the bar of your goals around personal growth and self-improvement. The desire to be a better person leads to greater insight about who you are. Excellence is about the forward movement toward doing “you” extremely well. It is not always about doing more. Even the desire to slow down, to let go, to do less, and to just be have nothing to do with mediocrity but everything to do about grounding yourself in growth. The spectrum of personal excellence is wide with possibility and opportunity.
In the brevity of life, who has time for mediocrity? You are a work in progress, growing toward excellence. Embrace the journey toward being your best self.
