Who or what motivates you to live a courageous life? In what ways do you find strength during challenging times? What drives you to move through life with your whole self even though you may be afraid, worried, anxious, overwhelmed? Here are a few inspiring thoughts on courage along with reflection questions that I have been pondering this week.
Inspiring Thoughts on Courage
Courage comes from the Latin “cor agere,” which means “to act from the heart.” Courage is also related to the word cultivate. Courage is to plow the ground of the heart and then to act.
Fran Ferder, FSPA
Courage is the muster, the energy to push you through the door of the unknown even when you can’t see the other side.
How do you cultivate your heart of courage? What gives you the strength to persevere in life as your authentic self?
It takes courage to grow up and become who you really are.
E.E. Cummings
Don’t Let Fear Hold You Back
The paradox of courage is that it can only be displayed when fear is at its peak.
Dr. Sean Hatt
Fear and courage are in a twin relationship. To be courageous is also to be afraid. Courage is fear with sneakers on. It is stepping into your truth, your purpose, and your influence while bringing fear along for the ride to watch and not get in the way.
What helps you acknowledge your fear and still take action anyway?
Scared is what you’re feeling. Brave is what you’re doing.
Emma Donoghue, Room
Encourage Others Along the Way
Encouragement is rooted in the word courage. To “encourage” means to internalize courage and then share it with others.
Fran Ferder, FSPA
What are the ways you empower others to live as their genuine self? How do you share your courage with others?
To persevere, trusting in what you hope for, is courage.
Euripedes
The Strength of Courage
Finally, my favorite poem on courage was written by a ten-year-old child several years ago. She is still inspiring me to this day.
