The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch.
During my vacation week in the summer, I treat myself to reading a children’s book. The Paper Bag Princess was in my backpack while vacationing in the mountains. I love this book and enjoy sharing it with family and friends. The book breaks the stereotype of the princess in fairy tales, and highlights inner strength primarily for girls. I read the book a couple of times this week, and some of the wisdom gleaned are applicable for children and adults of all ages, both girls and boys, women and men. One main observation is the book is about empowerment of self, your best self, no matter the feedback.
Top insights from the book:
- Believe in yourself
- Stand in the strength of who you are
- It doesn’t matter how you look on the outside or what you wear
- What matters most is who you are on the inside, what you do on the outside, and how you act toward others
- Relationships are meant to be a positive affirmation of your best self
- You are fierce and strong
- Strong enough to exhaust dragons and render them helpless
- Others may have expectations of you in how you are to look or how you are to dress
- Do not be afraid to confront those expectations if they are not true to who you are
- Challenge the false expectations people may have of you
- Stay rooted to your truth deep inside you
- Empowerment of self matters
- Be your best self – period.
