Share a story. Teach with wisdom. Inspire through experience. – Denise Pyles
Creative Legacy
From my book reading this past year, I remember learning that one of our basic human desires is to leave a legacy, to make our mark in the world, for others. We long to make a lasting impact. Our personal legacy is most often created in three artifacts, through our creative legacy of:
- Photos
- Writing
- Creative Work (e.g., original music, paintings, crafts, etc.)
For the most part, we all want to leave a legacy in some way. This desire spurs meaning in how we currently live, and how we want to live in the future. We long to leave this footprint of “us” in the world through the works we create.
Stories – Wisdom – Experience
We all have something inside us that is unique only to us and is worth sharing. What is your creative work that speaks to who you are?
What stories can you tell from your own lived experience that stirs wonder, delight, further curiosity, and inspiration for others?
Are there elements of your best self that you can share with others? How can you teach someone to be a better person based on your lived experience?
What kernels of wisdom can you empower others to make a difference in the world?
Making Your Mark
To share, to teach, and to inspire are some of the ways we can leave a legacy for others. Trust that we have enough of the “stuff inside us” to do that right now. We have enough stories, enough experience, and a little bit of wisdom, no matter our age, to get us started.
What mark are you making in your corner of the world?
What are your stories?
How will you teach through your lived experience?
Who will you inspire with your wisdom?
Build your creative legacy. Share. Teach. Inspire.
