Rest is a temporary state of being. Rest when needed, and keep pushing forward.
The weekend after Fourth of July, I went bicycling along an inlet bay to a small town in the northern Puget Sound area of Washington. The weather was spectacular, sunny, a light breeze, and temperatures in the mid-70’s.
On the trail, I pedaled past a bicyclist who was sitting on a park bench facing the sun. His eyes were closed, his head was upright toward the sun, and his hands were on his knees. From the outside, he seemed to be meditating or breathing in the moment of the day. This bicyclist took some time from his bike ride that day to rest, to dwell in the nourishment of stillness.
The brief awareness on my bike ride reminded me of the need for a break every now and then. Yes, the body is made for motion, and the body is in need of refreshing downtime. Rest is temporary not a permanent state of being. Dwell in the sustenance you need, and then keep pushing forward.
