How do you foster your creativity? What helps you expand your mindset? How do you find the balance that works best for you?
One of the lessons I have learned about personal growth is that growth happens at the edge of our comfort zone and not in the middle of it. This insight has been my experience not only with personal growth but also during times of recovery from sports injury via physical therapy (PT). PT is about working the injured part of the body just enough to facilitate the healing and not pushing too hard that may delay the recovery, just enough outside the body’s comfort zone to heal. Finding the right balance is critical for both growth and recovery.
Growth at the edge
Nature also tells us that growth happens at the edge:
- at the threshold of the soil where new life emerges from the ground
- for the seed buried in the darkness of the earth
- in various places of breaking points of creation where new life will eventually emerge. Have you ever watched a caterpillar become a butterfly? It is an epic transformation for that caterpillar.
Expand your mindset
Similarly, curiosity keeps us at the edge of our comfort zone and pushes us toward new insights of wonder. A curious mind is one of the best super-powers we have as humans. Being creative is one of our core strengths. Too much rest or long-term, consecutive inactivity can dull our curiosity. The lack of an inquisitive mind becomes a form of kryptonite, a weakness in our creative skills.
Curiosity is sharpened by engagement, activity, and growth at the edges of our being. You are the only one who knows your inner strength. You are the only one who can find the right balance you need to be your most energetic, life-giving, creative self.
Be careful of too much lag time
Use caution when you find yourself resting or dwelling too much in the realm of inactivity. Find the right pace that works for you to keep your inquisitive mind wandering toward insight and wisdom.
What works for you?
