How do you foster your personal growth between the seasons? In what ways do you wait with expectation on the time needed for growth to happen in your life?
The calendar may say that we are in the season of spring. Reality tells us that we are somewhere between the seasons of winter and spring. Winter is slowly losing its grip while spring is itching to burst forth in abundance. Growth is beginning to emerge from the ground, a perseverance that started several months ago in the darkness of winter. A lot of growth happens in the dark (so says, Barbara Brown Taylor).
Growth in the Dark
This past winter we received a little more than two feet of snow, very unusual for our area of the country. Plus, the cold weather has lingered longer than anticipated. It has taken almost a full month for the snow to melt. A lot of growth happens underneath the soil. The blanket of snow nurses the growth happening just beneath the surface.
Growth in the Light
The good news about this season is that winter eventually weakens its stronghold on the earth and finally gives way to the new life budding forth from the ground. The crocuses are in bloom, and the patches of purple are a welcome sight. Soon the daffodils and tulips will give way to a multi-color array of beauty across the landscape. Spring will finally win and complete this particular cycle of growth.
Growth Between the Seasons
How do we trust that growth is still happening within the depths of our being? In what ways do we give this blanket of nurturance time to be? How do we allow ourselves time to grow, trusting that new life will emerge in its own time?
