Are there pockets of nature or large swaths of landscape in your surroundings? If so, what do you see? What do you notice even deeper with your heart? What does nature’s wisdom teach you?
For the past 21 years, I have been blessed to have a hiking partner where we share a similar hiking cadence; where we savor the solitude; where we are comfortable with silence, and where our intention is rooted in mindfulness.
On nearly every hike we have done and continue to do, we would begin at the trailhead, and pause to ask each other the same question, “what do you seek this day?” Then we would begin our hike in silence. Along the way, we would be attentive to our surroundings while breathing in the forest landscape, letting nature remind us of its wisdom. In addition, rocks along the path would symbolize either the desire of our heart or the obstacle that we need to let go. Our hikes have been a long arc of seeking and letting go throughout our lives.
How often do you notice the wonder of creation around you? What do you see?
Pause long enough to allow nature to remind you of the mystery and wonder of life. Long enough to sharpen your focus. Expansive enough to catch your breath. Let creation energize your desire for seeking, for pondering, and for stillness in everyday living.
What does nature’s wisdom teach you this day?
