What helps you keep life in perspective?
I treasure the experience of hiking in the mountains any season during the year. Recently, I had the opportunity to go snowshoeing with a couple of friends. We encountered the last of the snowshoeing this season before the full spring melt.
Life in Perspective
We spent the day hiking one of the trails to the top of Hurricane Hill at Hurricane Ridge in the Olympic National Park. The weather was just right – a little cloud cover, minimal wind, and ideal temperatures for snowshoeing.
Along the hike, I kept taking in the vast 360-degree view of the snow-capped mountains – my kind of church. The immenseness of the landscape reminded to keep life in perspective, to not get too apprehensive over the small stuff. I also breathed in gratitude – grateful to let go of frustrations from the pain caused by religious institutions. By religion, I mean the limiting and discriminatory rules placed on others, religious practices that are constricting, where love comes with a list of conditions.
The Spirit of Love
The hike felt like a cathartic emptying of discontent while at the same time embracing a boundless love. I also felt like I went to church that day – breathing in a sense of perspective, a vision of freedom, and the Spirit of unconditional love that is beyond imagination.
I experienced gratitude for both the letting go and for the receiving of grace, blessing, and a moment of inner peace. Being in the mountains and breathing in the air of pine remind me to keep seeking the depths of an unlimited love that is expansive, freeing, and empowering.
Keep searching for this love amid ordinary life.
