What stops you in your tracks today? What do you notice? In what ways do you recognize the simplicity of the holy in your ordinary movements through life?
Simplicity of the Holy
There it was – a red maple leaf resting comfortably on a crack in the sidewalk, with two smaller yellow leaves keeping company in the distance. That leaf was a gentle reminder of autumn that will be soon upon us, and its beauty stopped me in my tracks.
That day I was hurrying between meetings and buildings, yet I paused long enough to gaze at its marvel and take a photo with my phone. All the glory of the holy in one aging, exquisite maple leaf. The simplicity of the sacred right at our feet.
Palpable Hints of the Sacred
Holy. The sacred. Where are the palpable hints for you of a power greater than ourselves, traces of the fingerprint of God, reminding us that love is stronger than all else?
Too often, we seek the divine in magnanimous signs. It seems as if we need extraordinary evidence to strengthen our faith. The reality is that most often the holy is in the simple joys of living an ordinary life.
