Where is the fragrance of wonder in your life? Where do you notice the scent of holiness?
Wonder. The holy. Wonder refers to anything that stops us long enough to behold beauty or ponder goodness or appreciate the experience of life at a deeper level. Holiness means having an awareness of the sacred, evidence of a higher power in our lives, traces of something more, authentic at the core.
Wonder are the “Wow” moments in life; holiness are the Spirit-moments. Both the holy and wonder expect mindfulness, paying attention long enough to recognize them as in-breaking encounters of meaning in our lives.
The Fragrance of Wonder
If wonder and holiness were fragrances, what would the aroma be? I would recognize the fragrance in several experiences such as:
- the scent of pine
- a delicate spring rain
- the smell of lilacs
- a camp-fire
- fresh-cut grass
In all things of nature, there is something of the marvelous. – Aristotle
The incense of the outdoors also speaks of wonder and the sacred for me. What fragrance triggers experiences of awe and holiness for you? What draws you toward mindfulness?
Soulful Living
If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has the power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive. – Eleanor Duse
How does nature help you marvel at goodness? What helps you pay attention to the deeper meaning of your life?
