The Endless Possibilities of Life
I recently participated in a photo tour throughout Croatia, Slovenia, and part of northern Italy. The experience was priceless. I am still unpacking the learning, the insights, and the surprising spiritual moments throughout the journey.
Some photo advice I received throughout the trip has also become life advice for living with intention. Here are the top five tips.
1 – Be Prepared
Prepare. Be ready for all kinds of weather. During our photo sessions, we traversed a variety of landscapes, and the weather was often unpredictable. It is important to have everything with you, including camera gear and rain/weather gear, to capture the best shot possible.
How do you prepare to handle and thrive in a variety of situations in life?
2 – Be Focused
Focus. Slow down enough to take in the landscape and make the photo. Often we would hear, “make the picture, don’t take the picture.” Slow down and breathe deeply of the landscape before you and allow the picture to emerge. Then make the photograph through your lens.
In what ways do you pause throughout your day to take in the landscape before you? To allow the picture to form in your mind and heart?
3 – Pay Attention
Pay attention. Be mindful of the tools you utilize in everyday living. In our photo shoots, we relied on the Histogram from our camera. The tool communicates information to you in helping you make your best shot possible. Your intuition, your perspective, your culture, your attitude, or your lens toward living can be tools of communication for you.
What life tool do you use to help guide you in making the best decisions and actions?
4 – Work the Scene
Work the scene. Frame the photo from all angles. Throughout the photo sessions, we were encouraged to work the scene from all angles and take shots from various levels, sides, heights, settings, etc. Sometimes your best shot comes from the least expected perspective.
What helps you look at life from as many angles as possible and empowers you to live your best?
5 – Stick Together
Stick together. Although each of us photographers on the tour worked independently on our photo shoots, it is important to stay together as a group and not get lost in the midst the unknown and unfamiliar terrain. One advantage of sticking together is that the experience builds both camaraderie and community among the group.
How do you stay connected with others?
The possibilities of life are endless and priceless. Remember to prepare, focus, pay attention, work the scene, and stick together. Then decide, choose, act, and become your best self.
