How do you live your spirituality in everyday life?
A few weeks ago, I had a conversation with a dear friend of mine about the meaning of spirituality in daily living. She sees spirituality as a way to live more fully in the present moment. I agree. Spirituality is a mindful awareness of the present.
Four ways to live our spirituality emerged during our conversation. They are:
- Live in the present moment
- Be kind
- Be selfless
- Have an open mind and an open heart
Simple ideas yet we spend a lifetime wrestling with how we foster this journey of spiritual growth in our daily living.
Live in the Present Moment
How do we pay attention and become mindful of the present moment? How do we let go of the worry about the future? In what ways do we release the grip of the past of what was?
Be Kind
In what ways do we regularly practice kindness? How are we being kind to others in a consistent way and not through random acts? How does our generosity encircle a wide range of people?
Be Selfless
In what ways do we practice selfless acts of love toward others, especially strangers? Or for those who cannot return the favor? What motivates us to be giving and fully present to others? How are we willing to put others before ourselves sometimes?
Have an Open Mind and an Open Heart
How do we embrace the world of differences with an open mind and an open heart? In what ways are we willing to be vulnerable? Where are we not in control all the time? Where are we not always right? In what ways do we challenge ourselves to slow down and listen? How do we seek a learning perspective? How do we deal with that which is sometimes holding us back?
Spirituality in Everyday Life
To live our spirituality in everyday life, how do we challenge ourselves to:
- Be open?
- Have an open mind?
- Seek understanding?
- Take time to listen?
- Genuinely care for others?
- Have a mindset of openness to new insights?
- Learn new wisdom?
- Understand that we may not always be right?
