A crack in everything and this is a good thing. Do you agree?
There are quotes, lines of poetry, and sections of music notes that stick to the sinews of our soul, and we end up carrying them with us throughout our lives like family memories. A line from one of Leonard Cohen’s song is one of them.
Leonard Cohen
There’s a crack, a crack in everything. That’s how the light gets in.
I remember the music line more than the song. I don’t remember hearing the song in its entirety or recall it’s melody. What has permanently stuck to my heart is the prose in this particular verse of the song.
I know this line in my very being. It is on my whiteboard at work as a reminder of its significance. I have posted this quote in my office for years. I also notice and photograph the cracks in my walkabouts of nature. They are tangible reminders of that which has captured my soul.
A Crack in Everything – The Other Side of Light
The reality of life is fragile, delicate, chaotic, fragmented, enlivening, joyous, and fleeting all rolled up into one, wild adventure. And the truth is there is no such thing as a perfect world, relationship, or, state of being. There is a crack – in everything.
No matter how hard we try to make our lives the best life possible, broken experiences happen. We are not perfect. Living a life of significance is choosing to work with and through the fragments, the brokenness we experience.
Light
The other side of the cracked space is the venue for light. The fractured fragments are how the light gets in to permeate every fiber of our being.
Light nourishes, soothes, heals, restores, holds, and bathes us in possibility. Energy gets in to nurture and make a way through in life.
Let the light in. Growth may begin in the dark, but life emerges through the cracks. Let the light in to bring forth wonder, amazement, and all things possible.
Luminescence
Life happens – the good, the bad, the ugly, the empty, the redeemed, the forgiven, the remaining hurt, what is left undone, unfinished, shattered, frayed, bare, bruised, all of it – is part of life.
How are you inspired? What do you notice across your landscape of the world that stays with you, reminding you of a more in-depth journey ahead of you?
I welcome your insights.
