Is there something more to leadership than influencing alone? How do we cultivate leadership as a team?
I read numerous articles on how to be a better leader, observing several means to develop exemplary leadership. Too often, a central aspect highlights that leadership is done solely as a single individual who shows others the way to success.
Leadership as a Team
Another fundamental principle for fostering leaders is that leadership is done as a team and not only as individuals. To be a leader, you also need to be part of a team. Yes, individuals are leaders. More importantly, leadership is about being part of a cohesive group that guides others toward a goal or milestone of success. Fostering leadership as a team is about collaborating as an integrated unit to accelerate the markers of success for others.
Team is a coordinated effort to drive toward a frequent target and to inspire others toward action. Yes, individuals perform this kind of leadership. Working as a team though is like leadership in 3D, augmenting the efforts to bring others to success.
Developing Teamwork
How you work on a team can impact your efforts toward improving your personal growth, to enhance the wins toward being successful in work or life.
Remember teamwork takes time to develop. Each person needs to commit to the process of contributing to something more significant than the self, and that takes time. This responsibility also includes the dedication to improving both one’s competence as well as the team’s proficiency.
The Possibility of Something More
The possibility of achievement can increase more with a team than with an individual. Some teams fail. So can individuals. The failure though can teach you how to move onward to your target. Leadership done together as a team propels a growth toward something new, something better, something more significant.
Leadership is best as a team approach. Cohesive teams excel as leaders.
I believe in a quiet, strong, and grounded leadership. I think some of the best leaders are those whose work is widely known and respected but who, themselves, are relatively unknown. – Rachael Chong
What does leadership mean to you? How do you live and work as a leader? In what ways do you lead as part of a team?
