What are the ordinary deeds of your life that remind you of the sacred?
Have you ever paid attention to the routines in your life? What are the tangible expressions of love in your daily activity? How do you love others in small ways of living?
Ordinary Deeds of Life
Simple tasks may seem insignificant and yet may have a profound impact on others that we may never fully comprehend. For example:
- A text of encouragement
- Sending flowers
- A hand-written note of affirmation
- Giving someone a ride
- Having lunch with a senior citizen
- Driving someone to a doctor’s appointment
- Giving someone your seat on the bus or train
- Anonymously paying for someone’s lunch
- Shaking a veteran’s hand and thanking them for their service
- Listening to someone tell their story
All of life can become a vehicle for the sacred. Instead of compartmentalizing holiness to a religion or a specific day of the week, be open to listening and discovering the divine so that love becomes the sacred place wherever we are in the world.
Love in Action
Love in the ordinary deeds whispers the sacred, and hints of the holy are everywhere in life. We need to slow down long enough to sync with the pace of the divine within and throughout our lives.
Intentional acts of kindness are a means of aligning ourselves with the cadence of the sacred. Mindful acts of love are echoes of the sacred whisper. Lean in and listen with an attentiveness toward action.
Sometime this week, I encourage you to reflect on the following questions throughout your day:
Where did I find love? Where did love encounter me?
Comments are welcome. I look forward to reading your answers.
