At every moment, we are both students and teachers; we learn by studying, but we also learn by helping others, by sharing and explaining what we know. – Salman Khan
Both Students and Teachers
Learn by studying. Learn by helping others. What areas of interest stir your curiosity? What encourages your sense of wonder? Are there things you are still learning? How are you sharing your knowledge with others?
The One World Schoolhouse: Education Reimagined by Salman Khan.
In his book, Sal Kahn, the founder of Khan Academy, articulates his vision of education, one that is both engaging and empowering. For Khan, the educational environment is the place where all are welcome, where all are invited to teach as well as to learn, and where all are encouraged to do the best they can.
I love learning. Learning and sharing knowledge are two of my core strengths. My formal education ended over 20 years ago. Yet, the quest for learning has only deepened over the years and continues to grow. The adventure of education widens my perspective, expands my mindset, propels my seeking to understand, sparks my curiosity, and motivates my spirit of generosity.
Several insights from Khan’s dream of education caught my attention; insights that are both inclusive and inspiring.
One World Schoolhouse
- Today’s pace of change is so swift that deep creativity and analytical thinking are no longer luxuries but survival skills
- People learn at different rates – respect the tempo and style of learning
- Knowledge brings light out of darkness
- Education happens in the individual brains of each us
- Education is a personal journey of learning
- There is no such thing as a “perfect” learner
- Knowledge is continuous; no subject is ever complete
- Learning is a work in progress
- Take control of your learning process
- Make time for creativity
- Do what makes sense
- Learning means to:
- Nurture curiosity
- Encourage wonder
- Instill confidence
What helps you nurture your curiosity? Encourage your sense of wonder? Instill confidence within you?
