My 2016 New Year’s Challenge: Read a book-a-week
I am reluctant in making new year’s resolutions. To me, they set you up for failure, especially if your expectations are too high.
Last year while during a period of recovery from surgery, I had time to reflect on how I wanted to live 2016 differently. I wanted to do something that would challenge me to be better and to deepen my personal growth mindset. During that time of recuperation, I was thinking about business leaders who read a book-a-week, leaders like Bill Gates. (See gatesnotes).
I am a huge fan of both Bill and Melinda Gates and their efforts to change the world. Although I am in no way within that stratosphere of intelligence, I thought I would challenge myself to read a book-a-week. I like to read for it feeds my hunger for knowledge and learning. The most I have read in any given year was when I was in graduate school, reading about 30-35 books per year. The target this time was 52 books.
I committed myself to the challenge that first week of 2016. Each week was an experience of inspiration, learning, questioning, empowerment and impact. By the end of the year I had completed my goal of reading 52 books, one per week. The experience was so incredible that I decided to continue the discipline of reading a book a week throughout 2017 and beyond.
This blog is the result of that reading challenge. I will be sharing the full list of books a little later and will blog about key insights from each of the books. The writing perspective will also be shared through my lens of photography.
Join me on this voyage around the globe of insight, this mind trip through awareness, knowledge and wisdom that I have learned and keep learning along the way. I look forward to also hearing your wisdom. Thank you for traveling along. Here’s to the adventure ahead.
